Why is lighting important to my room's decor?
Lighting is one of the most important elements in any interior or exterior decor. Proper lighting defines a space, adds depth and profoundly influences the mood of a room. Many interior designers employ a mix of indirect and direct light sources to bring dimension to a space. You can upgrade a mediocre room with the right lighting. Hide flaws. Enlarge corners. Highlight a treasure piece of furniture. Simply, lighting is to a room what makeup is to a model.

How do I know what kind of lighting I need?
If you call or visit our showroom, FABBY's lighting designers will be pleased to discuss your individual room or project and offer direction on what fixtures will be ideal for the setting.

Will Fabby sconces and ceiling fixtures provide enough light?
Absolutely. Maximum wattage for most of our interior sconces is two 75-watt bulbs or one 150 watt bulb. While many factors influence brightness, two sconces equipped with 150 watts each provide adequate lighting for a typical medium-size room (18' x 20' with an 8' ceiling). Connected to a wall dimmer switch, these sconces will supply bright, multi-purpose, ambient light for daily use, and can be dimmed to provide romantic or mood lighting in the evening.

For hallways, smaller spaces (10' x 12"), or rooms with low ceilings, we recommend Fabby's 13.5"-diameter ceiling shade fitted with two 75-watt bulbs. For larger rooms, or for smaller spaces with high (8.5' plus) ceilings, we recommend the larger 18"-diameter ceiling shade fitted with two 100-watt bulbs. We recommend the use of a dimmer switch with any ceiling light in order to create a full range of moods.

Are Fabby Fixtures UL approved?
Yes! Fabby fixtures are UL approved for damp locations and include all parts necessary for mounting over a standard junction box. All sconces come hardwired for incandescent use with a medium-base socket.

What kinds of light bulbs do I use in my Fabby sconces?
All Fabby sconces and ceiling fixtures typically come hardwired for incandescent bulbs. The most common type of lighting for residential settings, incandescent bulbs provide bright, warm, and natural light. We recommend using 50 to 75-watt natural white light bulbs for a sharper light that is far more dramatic than the standard yellow-toned bulbs.

What light bulbs do I use in my Fabby pendant lights?
Fabby pendant lights will accept one bulb with a maximum of 60 watts. Since the bulb is visible in this type of fixture, we recommend use of a "decorator" globe. There are many types and shapes available.

What light bulbs do I use in my Fabby vanity/bath lights?
Fabby vanity lights can accommodate two 150-watts bulbs, which are nearly completely concealed within the fixture. With our fabulous cut-out motifs, these vanity lights are one of the most beautiful and effective bathroom lights you will find. Fabby vanity lights work well above medicine cabinets or bathroom counters that are up to about 7' long. For long (8'-plus) counters with double sinks, we recommend you place one fixture above each sink.

What about fluorescent and halogen light bulbs?
Specialized bulbs, such and fluorescent and halogen, were designed to achieve two purposes: reduce energy consumption and provide brighter light. Many Fabby sconces can be special-ordered with fluorescent sockets for use in commercial applications. For residential use, the same energy efficiency can easily be achieved by purchasing "screw-in" fluorescent bulbs, which are available at most hardware stores.

Fluorescent bulbs are recommended for use in fixtures that are left turned on for long periods of time with no interruption in use. The energy efficiency of fluorescent bulbs is lost when they are used in fixtures that are turned on and off frequently.

Halogen light bulbs are preferred for both the whiteness of their light and their reduced energy consumption. Like fluorescent bulbs, halogen bulbs often require special sockets. Due to their high heat and the close proximity to walls of Fabby sconces, we do not offer any fixtures hardwired for halogen bulbs.

Can I use colored or clear light bulbs?
Yes! You can use colored incandescent light bulbs that are up to 75-watts in your Fabby light fixtures to create a particular mood or look. 60-watt light bulbs that have been partially dipped in silver or white paint are also available and perfect over kitchen islands, counters, and over the dining room table. Additional light sources are recommended when this type of light is used in retail environments. Also try clear light bulbs for the most dramatic and sharper light pattern effect.

Can I paint my Fabby fixtures?
Fabby sconces may be painted or faux finished to fit your room's decor. Any basic latex paint may be used. We recommend using flat paints, as they maintain the original character of your fixture best and require no primer. For all other treatments, especially oil-based paints, a primer coat of paint is needed to seal the bisque. The look is fabulous as the fixtures can blend right into the wall creating the appearance of a free-floating light display.

Does Fabby offer outdoor lighting?
Yes! Most Fabby lights can be used outdoors. Tell your customer service representative that you would like to use your lights outdoors so that water resistant hardware can be included in your shipment. Fabby lights are striking on the front porch, to light up the driveway, patio, or as down lights for landscaping. The maximum wattage for all exterior sconces is one 75-watt bulb.

How do I clean my Fabby fixtures?
For bisque (unpainted) sconces and ceiling fixtures, use a dry cloth to dust and a medium 150 grit sandpaper to remove fingerprints and smudges. DO NOT use liquid cleaners! The bisque absorbs liquid any markings will become worse.

Mirage collection and Textural series only: clean with a soft cloth dampened with cold water. Do not use cleaning solvents!
