Wall Sconce
There is no single light fixture that gives you everything you need to illuminate a room properly. The trick is using a variety of light sources to create a flexible, inviting space. A common interior designer's term for this technique is called light layering. This can be accomplished by incorporating wall sconce lighting.
Two of these layers are called Accent Lighting and Decorative Lighting. The first, Accent Lighting, is lighting that will highlight objects and add depth and dimension to an environment. Sconce lighting is most often used for this effect.
The second type is Decorative Lighting. This type of Fabby Lighting adds sparkle to a room. Decorative lighting can often serve one purpose only, to look pretty. Chandeliers, gilded bronze and Italian glass wall sconce most often fall into this category.
- Fabby sconce light fixtures are famous for their multi-tasking abilities. Due to the opaque nature of our ceramic material, the light bulb is almost always shielded from direct exposure to the eye. This allows the user to employ a much higher wattage light bulb --150 watts in most fixtures. When used with a dimmer switch, your Fabby sconce light can be turned down to create very soft, romantic moods or turned up to medium brightness to fully appreciate our graphic and visually striking decorative cutout motifs. When turned up all the way, bright task lighting will indicate the party is over.
- Architecture vs. Aesthetics. Another amazing property of ceramic lighting is its ability to blend in with the built environment surrounding it. All Fabby wall sconce lighting was originally sculpted by hand with a keen eye for proportion and scale. Then, a wide range of decorative features were sculpted into the body of the sconce to produce distinct decorative styles. Fabby wall sconces reveal design influences from the Mediterranean, Art Deco, Post Modern, and Contemporary design movements. It is these classic design elements that that are infused into Fabby sconces that have allowed them to withstand the test of time.
- These classic features allow Fabby sconces to stylishly blend in with the backdrop of a room. Many homeowners and designers of spec homes use Fabby to create dramatic effects that also allow maximum versatility with future décor. It's not uncommon to find elaborately designed wall sconce lighting with high fashion in mind to be the first accessories homeowners become tired of.
- To paint or not to paint. Approximately 30% of Fabby customers will paint their sconce light to match the wall color. Painting in this fashion produces a clean, calm look that will feature the shape as an architectural detail. Architectural details like this almost always add value to a home.
Ironically, when Fabby Lighting sconces are installed in their natural off-white bisque finish on walls that have been painted in fashion colors, they will immediately highlight and accentuate any architectural features like trim and door details that are also white. This is just another value adding bonus. The natural off-white bisque finish is neutral and will coordinate very well with many shades of white. For an exact match, simply paint to match.
- Lastly. The bisque finish of all Fabby sconce lighting is an excellent surface for creating faux finishes on. Water based paints are recommended and do not require primer. Only oil base paints will require a primer coat prior to painting. Please visit our Textural collection to see some examples of our material faux painted with acrylic artist paints.
